HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE
Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, NAS of Ukraine (IETP, NAS of Ukraine) was established in accordance with the Resolution of Council of Ministers of USSR № 1408 of 28 December 1963 and the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR № 4 dated January 15, 1964 on the basis of Institute of power engineering USSR (USSR Council of Ministers Resolution № 639 on May 5, 1947) for the development and deepening of the theory and practice of rational use of energy resources in power and heat technologies.

MAIN DIRECTIONS OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL ACTIVITY OF THE INSTITUTE:
    

  • Thermal Studies of processes in heat and energy equipment and development of methods of improving it’s thriftiness and ecological security.
  • Theory of heat transfer and processes of transfer and utilization of heat in machines and apparatus of new technology.
  • Heat and mass transfer and new energy and resource saving heat technologies.
  • The theory of measurement of thermal values and creation of new thermophysical devices and systems.

SCIENTISTS INSTITUTE CONDUCTS THE FOLLOWING SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF:
    

  • development of the theory of thermal processes in objects of industrial and municipal energy system analysis of strategic options for the modernization of these sectors;
  • the development of scientific principles and methods to improve fuel efficiency in the energy sector through the combined production of heat and electricity in heat providing systems;
  • the development of the general theory of turbulent heat transfer in the complicated conditions that are typical for thermal power equipment, the establishment of scientific principles and methods of high-temperature systems thermal protection;
  • investigation of the mechanism of heat transfer processes with changes in the aggregate state of heat carriers in elements of power equipment;
  • thermophysical studies of proceses in equipment of nuclear energy, the development of methods to improve its reliability and environmental safety, as well as methods to predict thermal gas dynamic phenomena while disposal of radioactive waste from nuclear power plants;
  • development of theoretical bases of heat and mass transfer in terms of discrete-pulse energy input into the dispersion media and creation on this basis of a fundamentally new class of technologies;
  • the study of fundamental problems of unsteady heat transfer and material in the capillary-porous and colloidal solids and flow systems in the presence of phase and chemical transformations;
  • research of heat and mass transfer intensification and development of effective heat technologies in the chemical, food processing and microbiological industry and building materials industry;
  • research of heat and mass transfer processes with changes in aggregate state of matter, creation of absorption refrigerating machines running in regimes of refrigeration machine and heat pump;
  • the creation of devices and systems for the composition control of waste gases (fumes) in energy equipment, processes with chemical and mechanical incomplete combustion. Optimization the combustion process in the furnaces of energy and heating units;
  • development of high-precision measuring devices and systems for thermal measurements in municipal energy facilities;
  • development of effective systems for gas cleaning and heat recovery devices.

 SCIENTIFIC SCHOOLS
During the existence of the Institute had been created and developed powerful scientific schools headed and led by prominent scholars, such as:

  • “Scientific basis of heat and mass transfer in disperse systems with discrete pulsed energy input” (founder and director: academician of NAS of Ukraine AA Dolinsky)
  • “Thermophysics of highly forced proceses in thermal power equipment” (founder academician of AS USR, IT Shvets, academician of AS USR Dyban, head: academician of NAS of Ukraine AA Dolinsky)
  • “Heat and Mass Transfer in heat-engineering” (founder: academician of AS USR OA Kremnov, head: prof. UF Snyezhkin NAS of Ukraine)
